SJR 3 - Upon approval of the voters, this constitutional amendment requires the Attorney General to seek appropriate relief on behalf of the state when the Attorney General determines that a lawsuit is necessary and proper, or when the Attorney General is directed to seek relief by the Governor, the General Assembly, or by a petition of the voters that expresses the belief that the federal government has taken steps that require the state or a state officer to enforce a federal law that is outside Congress's power and intrudes on state sovereignty. The amendment also sets forth the procedure for the petition process for voter-directed lawsuits. This amendment is similar to SJR 34 (2010). EMILY KALMER
