Senator Marvin Singleton

     Senator Singleton was educated at Shreiner Institute, Kerrville, Texas; University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee and University of Tennessee Medical School; University of Colorado, Fellowship; L.S.U., Fellowship. He is a practicing physician and maintains an active office in Joplin, specializing in ear, nose and throat problems and related allergies.

     In addition to being a full time physician, Senator Singleton represents the 32nd Senatorial District, composed of Jasper, Newton and McDonald counties. Senator Singleton was elected in a special election on June 5, 1990 and re-elected in November 1990, 1994 and 1998. In 1996 and 1998, Senator Singleton was elected to the Senate leadership position of Assistant Minority Floor Leader.

     Senator Singleton is a member of the Senate Committees on Appropriations; Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence; Gubernatorial Appointments; Insurance and Housing; Public Health and Welfare and Rules, Joint Rules and Resolutions. Senator Singleton is also a member of the National Conference of State Legislatures Health Committee and the Southern Legislative Conference Human Services and Public Safety Committee.

     The Senator is an active member of the Missouri Republican Party. He has served as precinct chairman, chairman of various subcommittees, and is past president of the Missouri Republican Association. He also served as a member of the Newton County Republican Committee, State committeeman for the 32nd Senatorial District. Senator Singleton has been a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1988 and 1992. He has been the local coordinator for several VIP visits to Joplin, including past presidents and vice presidents.

     Senator Singleton is a longtime resident of Newton County and is a well-known civic leader in the area. He has been an active member of many local organizations including the Rotary Club, the Seneca R-VII School Board, the Newton County 4-H, Masonic Lodge, Elks Club and several others. He also holds many professional memberships and is a published author.

     The Senator and his wife, Anita, have two children, Mitchell and Catherine. They attend the St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
