Born March 1, 1937, in St. Louis. Graduate of St. Louis University (B.S., political science; J.D., 1960).

Married Mary Steppan on November 4, 1961. They have four children: Anne, John, Robert and Mark. He is a trial attorney and partner in a law firm. Instructor in business law and economics, 1964-1968.
