HB 964 -- Sex Education
Co-Sponsors: Fraser, Days, Carter, Thompson (72)
This bill provides that the course material and instruction for
human sexuality given in public school should adhere to certain
guidelines, among which are inclusion of information about
responsible sexual behavior and about legal prohibitions against
certain forms of sexual relations and requirements for the
support of children; the promotion of abstinence for youth and
mutually monogamous relationships for adults but not to the
exclusion of material on contraception and disease control; the
validation of the importance of honesty with oneself and others;
how to decline sexual advances and how to accept the refusal of
sexual advances. The bill requires that course information be
medically and factually accurate. Instruction in sanitation,
hygiene, or traditional courses in biology are not prohibited by
the bill.
