HB 923 -- Motor Vehicle Records
Co-Sponsors: Cierpiot, Crawford, Bennett
This bill prohibits the Department of Revenue from disclosing
any personal information unless there is written consent of the
individual whose record or personal information is requested,
except to:
(1) Any governmental agency or private person or entity acting
on behalf of a federal, state, or local agency in carrying out
its functions;
(2) Any insurer or insurance support organization in connection
with claims investigation activities, antifraud activities,
rating, or underwriting; and
(3) Any motor vehicle manufacturer in connection with matters
of motor vehicle or driver safety and theft, motor vehicle
product alterations, recalls, advisories, warranty service, or
performance monitoring of motor vehicles and dealers.
No department can sell personal information for any amount in
excess of the amount permitted by law.
