BILL SUMMARIES

COMMITTEE

HCS HB 904 -- FAMILY OWNED FARM CORPORATIONS (Leake)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on
Agriculture by a vote of 20 to 2.

For purposes of the chemical emergency preparedness fund, this
substitute includes family farm corporations with a gross income
not to exceed $1 million as family-owned farm operations which
are exempt from payment of fees for this fund.

FISCAL NOTE: Loss to Chemical Emergency Preparedness Fund of
$17,500 in FY 2000, $21,000 in FY 2001, and $21,000 in FY 2002.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the fee assessment is not
proportionate with the potential hazard presented by family farm
corporations and therefore such corporations need to be exempted
from the fee.

Testifying for the bill were Representatives Summers and Klindt.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.

Roland Tackett, Legislative Analyst
