HB 853 -- PLANNING AND ZONING

Under current law, a municipal planning commission must consist
of not more than 12 nor fewer than 4 citizens appointed by the
mayor.  This bill increases the number of appointments to not
more than 15 nor fewer than 5 citizens.  The bill also removes
the requirement that the mayor, a member of the city council,
and the city engineer serve as members of the commission.  The
mayor and councilperson may still serve on the commission if
they choose to be members.

on Local Government and Related Matters by a vote of 17 to 0.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that this bill gives the county
commission the option of being on the board and may reduce some
conflict of interest.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
