COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Criminal
Law by a vote of 13 to 5.

This bill makes a person convicted of an assault, ineligible to
receive a suspended imposition or execution of sentence,
probation, or a fine in lieu of a term of imprisonment, if the
assault was on a mass transit worker or passenger while on or
waiting to board a bus or light rail system.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill is necessary for the
protection of mass transit operators and passengers, who are
especially vulnerable to attack.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Troupe; Herbert
Dill; A.T.U. Local 788; Henrietta Brown; and Bi-State Board of
Legislators.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
