BILL SUMMARIES

COMMITTEE

HB 806 -- STEALING OF ROAD SIGNS

CO-SPONSORS: Naeger, Reinhart, Bartelsmeyer, Pryor, Barnett

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Criminal
Law by a vote of 9 to 7.

This bill makes it a class D felony for any person to steal a
road sign, marker, traffic signal, or traffic device.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that increasing the penalty for
stealing road signs is appropriate because public safety is put
at risk when signs have been stolen from their proper location.
Supporters also say that the cost of replacing stolen signs is a
burden on state taxpayers.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Naeger; St.
Genevieve County Commission; and Missouri Department of
Transportation.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.

Sarah Madden, Legislative Analyst
