HB 778 -- MISSOURI EDUCATIONAL EMPLOYEES' MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
PROGRAM

This bill establishes the Missouri Educational Employees'
Memorial Scholarship Program to provide scholarships for the
children or legal dependents of Missouri educational employees
who die after the effective date of this bill and who were
employed by a Missouri school district at the time of their
death. The Coordinating Board for Higher Education will
administer the scholarship program, and will make awards to
full- or part-time undergraduate students to attend an approved
public or private institution of higher education in Missouri.
Employees of public school districts may elect to have $1 or
more withheld from their paycheck to be donated to the newly
created fund used to provide the scholarships. In order for
their children or legal dependents to qualify for a scholarship,
educational employees must be enrolled in and regularly
contributing to the program for at least one year; this one-year
requirement does not apply to persons enrolled during the first
year of the program's operation or to persons employed for less
than one year. To be eligible for a scholarship, a student must
be at least 17 years of age, a United States citizen and
Missouri resident, and demonstrate financial need.
