COMMITTEE

HCS HB 756 -- COUNTY COLLECTORS

SPONSOR: Hoppe (Elliott)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Local
Government and Related Matters by a vote of 17 to 0.

This bill repeals language allowing county collectors and ex
officio collectors to retain certain fees as an additional part
of their salary.

Under current law, county collectors are allowed to enter into
contracts with cities for the collection of municipal taxes.
The bill gives the county commission the authority to enter into
tax collection contracts with cities.

FISCAL NOTE: Not available at time of printing.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that county commissions should have
control of monies paid to the county. Some county collectors
are keeping funds paid to them by cities for the collection of
taxes. This bill is only for first class counties.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Elliott.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
