HB 712 -- Insurance Discrimination for Domestic Violence

Sponsor: Dougherty

This bill specifies how insurance companies can use information
they gather relating to domestic violence and with whom they can
share this information. The bill also applies greater penalties
to insurance companies for violating provisions of the law on
discrimination against victims of domestic violence. Each
violation can result in fines of up to $20,000. The Department
of Insurance is responsible for imposing these fines. Repeated
violations can cost insurance companies their licenses to
transact insurance in Missouri. These penalties are in addition
to current penalties provided for in law.
