HB 70 -- Public Drinking Water

Sponsor: Elliott

This bill specifies customer notification requirements for
public drinking water systems that have failed to comply with
the requirements of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
for maximum contaminant levels, treatments, or schedules
prescribed in a variance or exemption. For systems serving
1,500 or fewer persons, customers must be notified by mail or
hand delivery within 48 hours of the violation. Notification
requirements may be waived if the violation has been corrected
within the 48-hour period. For maximum contaminant level
violations that DNR considers possible acute health risks, local
radio and television stations must be informed and customers
notified by hand delivery within 24 hours of the violation.
