COMMITTEE
HCS HB 66 & 624 -- MILITARY LICENSE PLATES
SPONSOR: Boucher (Ransdall)
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Federal--
State Relations and Veterans Affairs by a vote of 13 to 0.
This substitute makes it clear that all military plates may be
obtained for any motor vehicles other than a commercial vehicle
licensed in excess of 12,000 pounds gross weight.
All military plates, except the Prisoner of War, Disabled
Veteran or Congressional Medal Of Honor plates, will cost $15 in
addition to the regular registration fee charged. A fee for
personalized plates will not be charged for these plates. There
will no longer be a limit on the number of plates a person may
obtain as long as each set is issued for vehicles owned solely
or jointly by the person. The substitute authorizes three new
military plates, the Bronze Star, Gold-Star-Mothers, and Gulf
War Veteran plates.
The substitute also allows a statement rather than an affidavit
to be used for transactions relating to motor vehicles in most
license applications to the Department of Revenue.
FISCAL NOTE: Not available at time of printing.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this bill cleans up
inconsistent language regarding special license plates and makes
the purchase of all special plates uniform. The bill also
honors veterans and their families.
Testifying for the bill were Representative Ransdall; and
Department of Revenue.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
