HB 480 -- School Start Date

Co-Sponsors: Fraser, Backer, Merideth

Current law states that school districts must not begin their
school year before September 1 and provides three exceptions for
beginning earlier. This bill eliminates the September 1 start
date and the exceptions and requires that districts beginning
school before Labor Day must provide a four-day weekend for that
holiday.
