TRULY AGREED

SCS HB 35 -- KANSAS CITY CONVENTION AND TOURISM TAX

Current law requires at least 30% of the proceeds from the
Kansas City convention and tourism tax to be paid to a local
nonprofit organization which promotes the city as a convention
and tourist center.  This bill increases the minimum payment to
40% of tax revenues.  Further, for the lodging component of the
tax, the bill increases the maximum rate that may be submitted
to voters from 5.5% to 6.5%.

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Urban Affairs by a vote of 8 to 0.

Current law requires at least 30% of the proceeds from the
Kansas City convention and tourism tax to be paid to a local
non-profit organization which promotes the city as a convention
and tourist center.  This bill increases the payment to at least
40% of tax revenues.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that 40% of tax revenues are now
being allocated to the convention and visitors bureau.  This
bill increases the minimum allocation to reflect the current
arrangement.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Campbell; Kansas
City Convention and Visitors Bureau; Greater Kansas City Chamber
of Commerce; and City of Kansas City.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
