COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Urban
Affairs by a vote of 9 to 2.
This bill designates Walt Disney's first film studio in Kansas
City as a state historic site. Subject to appropriation, the
Department of Natural Resources will acquire and rehabilitate
the studio as a museum to honor Walt Disney and other
Missourians involved in animated and live action films.
The bill contains an emergency clause.
FISCAL NOTE: Estimated Net Cost to Parks Sales Tax Fund of $0
in FY 2000, $0 or $3,182,781 in FY 2001, and $0 or $152,668 in
FY 2002. Income to State Parks Earnings Fund of $0 in FY 2000,
$0 in FY 2001, and $0 or $5,000 in FY 2002.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this historic site deserves
preservation and will be important for tourism and urban renewal
efforts.
Testifying for the bill were Representative Thompson (37); and

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
