HB 230 -- LINCOLN UNIVERSITY BOARD OF CURATORS (Days)

Current law authorizes the Governor to appoint 9 members to the
Lincoln University Board of Curators.  This bill requires that
not more than one of the 9 curators be appointed from the same
congressional district.  The bill also allows the student
representative to the board to receive actual expenses for
attendance at board meetings, payable from the university's
ordinary revenues.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Higher Education by a vote of 17 to 0.

Current law authorizes the Governor to appoint 9 members to the
Lincoln University Board of Curators.  This bill requires that
not more than one of the 9 curators be appointed from the same
congressional district.  The bill also allows the student
representative to the board to receive actual expenses for
attendance at board meetings, payable from the university's
ordinary revenues.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that it is fair and equitable to
have all 9 districts of the state represented on Lincoln
University's governing board.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Days; Bill
Gillispie; Lincoln University National Alumni Association; and
Harold Mabrey.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
