COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Civil and
Administrative Law by a vote of 18 to 0.

This bill clarifies that costs for interpreters and translators
in criminal cases are to be paid from funds appropriated to the
Office of the State Courts Administrator.

FISCAL NOTE:  Estimated Net Cost to General Revenue Fund of
$84,562 in FY 2000, $95,545 in FY 2001, and $98,163 in FY 2002.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that this bill is necessary to clean
up language referencing the Office of State Courts Administrator
and to clarify that the state must pay for costs of interpreters
and translators in criminal cases regardless of the outcome of
the case.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Smith; and Missouri
Supreme Court.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
