COMMITTEE
HB 133 -- FEDERAL LAND ACQUISITION
SPONSOR: Crump
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Federal--
State Relations and Veterans Affairs by a vote of 13 to 0.
This bill requires the federal government to obtain statutory
authorization from the General Assembly to acquire land in
Missouri for reforestation, recreational, or agricultural
purposes.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this bill is needed to protect
the tax base. The federal government does not pay taxes on
federal property. The federal government is stopping mining,
logging, and may try to stop hunting on federal property. The
state needs to look at each property purchase.
Testifying for the bill were Representative Crump; Junior
Williams; Gary Boyer; Ron Hardecke; National Organization for
People of USA; Doe Run Mining; Missouri Cattlemans Association;
Associated Industries; Citizens for Private Property Rights;
Washington County Commission; and Oregon County Land Use
