HB 1035 -- State Employee Benefits

Co-Sponsors: Liese, Cooper, Lakin

This bill removes Lincoln's Birthday, Truman's Birthday, and
Columbus Day as observed state holidays. Employees hired prior
to January 1, 2000, will receive the same leave time based on
vacation and holiday time, combined, as they had before this
proposed change. Other state holidays that fall on a weekend
are observed on the Friday before the holiday or the Monday
after the holiday. Also, an employee who requests and is
approved for leave time and whose leave time is later withdrawn
will be paid the normal hourly rate for such amount of leave
time requested and approved.

Beginning January 1, 2001, basic life insurance benefits are
modified from the current $15,000 to a minimum of $15,000 or the
employee's salary whichever is higher. The life insurance
provides for a triple indemnity for a work-related death.
