HB 1029 -- Basic Breathing Screening

Sponsor: Barry

Beginning January 1, 2001, and ending June 1, 2004, school
boards are required to provide a free, basic breathing screening
by a qualified health care provider for each second- and sixth--
grader and to report the results to the child's parents. School
boards are also required annually to report to the Department of
Health the number of students screened and the number of
referrals for examination by a physician that resulted from the
screening. The department will present this information to the
General Assembly in January 2004. The screening will be funded
by tobacco settlement moneys.
