DESCRIPTION

Section 301.142 allows the physically disabled, or those who transport the physically disabled to obtain license plates and/or removable windshield placards inscribed with the international wheelchair accessibility symbol and the word "disabled." The license plates will be issued by the Director of Revenue at no charge and a $2.00 fee will be charged for placards.

This section is modified by adding optometrist to the list of those who may certify that a person is physically disabled. Each application for license plates or placards should be accompanied by a statement signed by a licensed physician, chiropractor, podiatrist, or optometrist. The Director of Revenue may order a medical examination to determine whether a person qualifies for a special plate or placard.

This legislation is not federally mandated, would not duplicate any other program and would not require additional capital improvements or rental space.
