Joint Interim Committee on Tobacco

The Joint Interim Committee is charged with determining the short and long term financial and constitutional consequences associated with the estimated $6.7 billion in tobacco settlement proceeds the state of Missouri is expected to receive over the next 25 years as a result of SCS HCS HB 814 (1999) and the 11/23/98 Master Settlement Agreement.

The Joint Interim Committee may solicit input and information from any group, organization and entity that it deems necessary to fulfill its duties.

The staff of Senate Research, House Research and Legislative Research shall provide such legal, research, clerical, technical and drafting services as the Joint Interim Committee may require in the performance of it's duties. In addition, the actual and necessary expenses of the Joint Interim Committee members and legislative staff shall be paid from their respective contingent funds.

On or before December 15, 1999, the Joint Interim Committee shall deliver to my office a detailed, written report which may include recommendations and potential legislative responses, if any.
