Current Bill Summary

SB 487 - Under this act, the weight restrictions per axle on commercial vehicles or combination of vehicles used statewide on all roads and bridges will be the axle category currently used on primary or interstate highways. Currently, there is a separate weight category for vehicles operating on primary or interstate highways, supplementary highways, and on bridges. The Highways and Transportation Commission will have authority to restrict or establish maximum weight and speed limits on certain bridges whenever they find that a bridge is in such condition that use of high weight may endanger the bridge or it users. Signs will have to be posted to provide user notice of the weight and speed limits established. This portion of the bill is similar to HB 500 (1999).

Under this act, motor vehicles under contract for a governmental entity will not have to comply with the height, weight, width, length restrictions of Sections 304.170 to 304.240.
