FISCAL ANALYSIS

ASSUMPTION

Advertisement costs for the proposal would be $3,990 per newspaper column inch for three printings of the text of the proposal, the introduction, title, fiscal note summary, and affidavit. The proposal would be on the ballot for the November 1998 general election.

No direct fiscal effect on small businesses would be expected due to this proposal.



DESCRIPTION

This proposal would change term limits for state legislators. With a possible exception, Representatives would be limited to no more than six two-year terms and Senators to no more than three four-year terms. The exception would be if a candidate for the General Assembly who would otherwise not be eligible for election would present petitions signed by at least two percent of voters in the appropriate district or 10,000 voters, whichever would be less, to the Secretary of State at least six months before the general election or earlier, if provided by law.

This legislation is not federally mandated, would not duplicate any other program and would not require additional capital improvements or rental space. This legislation would not affect Total State Revenue.
