SS/SB 271 - This act increases the maximum tort liability for the state and political subdivisions from $1 million to $2 million for multiple claims arising from the same event and from $100,000 to $300,000 for a single claim. The $300,000 cap on individual claims shall not include reasonable and necessary medical expenses. These limits will be adjusted annually in the future to account for inflation. The Commissioner of Administration, or governing body for a political subdivision, is authorized to purchase insurance up to the new levels of liability.
