HB 756 -- SECURITY GUARDS

This bill requires that for the purpose of employment all

security guard is defined as any person who is not authorized to
carry a firearm and who is paid to protect the person or
property of another, excluding law enforcement officers, public
officials, or public employees.

COMMITTEE

HB 756 -- SECURITY GUARDS

SPONSOR: Luetkenhaus

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Local Government and Related Matters by a vote of 17 to 0.

This bill requires that for the purpose of employment all
municipalities within a county recognize security guard licenses
issued by other municipalities within the same county. A
security guard is defined as any person who is not authorized to
carry a firearm and who is paid to protect the person or
property of another, excluding law enforcement officers, public
officials, or public employees.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this bill would save low paid
security guards from paying a license fee in many different
cities within the same county. Many cities require a background
check for a license. This 2 week background check results in
lost work for the guard.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Luetkenhaus.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
