HB 590 -- ST. LOUIS FIREMEN'S RETIREMENT

SPONSOR: O'Toole

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Retirement by a vote of 9 to 0.

and is qualified to receive a retirement allowance equal to 75%
of the final average compensation. This bill requires the board
to retire such a member. The exceptions currently specified are
not changed by the bill.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the mandatory retirement
provision is an attempt to eliminate discrepancies in how the
retirement age has been administered as board membership
changes. This bill is in line with federal rulings on mandatory
retirement age in public safety situations. The trustees of the
retirement system board favor the bill.

Testifying for the bill were Representative O'Toole; and
Firemen's Retirement System of St. Louis.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
