Current Bill Summary

SJR 12 - This resolution would place a constitutional amendment before the voters which, if approved, would raise the maximum school operating levy which can be approved by simple majority vote from three dollars and seventy five cents to six dollars per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation.

The resolution also provides that the school board of any district whose operating levy has been set by court order for the 1995 tax year may set its operating levy at any value below the current levy established under federal court order. Voter approval would be required to go above the court-ordered rate. Kansas City Missouri School District has a levy established by court order.

This resolution is similar to HJR 9 (TAT) from 1997.
