SB 106 - This act mandates a sentence of life imprisonment for the offense of first degree assault against a law enforcement officer. First degree assault is defined as attempting to kill or knowingly cause or attempt to cause serious physical injury to a law enforcement officer and is a Class A felony.
Under current law, a Class A felony is punishable by 10 to
30 years or life in prison.
