Current Bill Summary

SB 50 - This act addresses the publication of legal notices and amends Section 493.050 in two ways. First, the three-year consecutive publication requirement in subsection 1 is modified to allow a successor newspaper to interrupt publication for up to thirty consecutive days and still be able to publish public advertisements, orders of publication and legal publications affecting the title to real estate. Second, a new subsection 2 is added which requires that a newspaper meet certain standards before publishing public advertisements, orders of publication and legal publications affecting the title to real estate. These standards include but are not limited to the filing of a yearly statement of ownership and circulation with the Secretary of State.
