To amend chapter 190, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to ambulance districts.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

     Section A. Chapter 190, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 190.042, to read as follows:

     190.042. 1. No area shall pay a tax to more than one ambulance district. In the event an area is paying a tax to more than one ambulance district, any taxpayer residing in the area subject to the double tax may file a petition with the county clerk in which the area, or greatest part thereof, is situated requesting that the double tax be eliminated and that the area only pay a tax to one ambulance district. The petition shall request that the following question be submitted to the voters residing within the geographic limits of the area:

     The ..................... (description of area) is currently paying a tax to the .................. (name of ambulance district) and the .................. (name of ambulance district). As a result, shall the tax paid to the .................. (name of ambulance district) be eliminated?

[ ] Yes [ ] No

     2. If the constitutionally required percentage of the votes cast favor the elimination of the ambulance district tax, the residents of the area shall thereafter only pay one tax to the remaining ambulance district.

     3. The boundaries and service area of an ambulance district shall remain in full force and effect until properly modified by law or by a vote of the people.
