Senator Emory Melton
District 29

Senator Melton is a fifth-generation native of Barry County, and for the past forty-nine years has resided in Cassville. He attended Rural Schools of Barry County, graduated from Verona High School, attended Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, and the University of Missouri at Columbia, where he received a law degree.

Senator Melton was elected Prosecuting Attorney of Barry County while serving with the occupation army in Japan in 1946, and was re-elected in 1948.

Senator Melton practices law in Cassville and is President of Melton Publications, which publishes newspapers in Barry and Stone counties.

First elected to the Missouri Senate in 1972, he was re-elected without opposition in 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988 and 1992. His district consists of seven counties along the Missouri-Arkansas line and includes Barry, Christian, Douglas, Howell, Ozark, Stone and Taney Counties.

He served nineteen years as a member of the Missouri State Tourism Commission and currently holds membership on six Senate Committees, including: Appropriations; Budget Control; Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence; Education; Gubernatorial Appointments; Rules, Joint Rules and Resolutions and serves on the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules.
