Born February 23, 1947, in Waynesville. Graduated from Houston (Mo.) public schools, 1965. Attended the University of Missouri-Columbia (B.S., agriculture, 1969).

Married Mary Jane Rockhill, June 20, 1981. They have a son: Michael Patrick. He is a beef cattle farmer in Texas County. Served six years, U.S. Army Reserves.

Member: First Baptist Church, Houston; Texas Lodge 177, AF & AM; Scottish Rite; Abou Ben Adhem Shrine. Elected to the House: 176-1978. Elected to the Senate: 1982-1994.
