Born July 24, 1939, in Charleston. Attended St. Henry Elementary and St. John the Baptist High School.

Married Patricia Ann Crowe, 1957. They have three children and seven grandchildren. Engaged in the retail lumber business in St. Louis.

Member: Epiphany of Our Lord Parish Church. Awards: St. Louis Globe-Democrat award for Meritorious Public Service; Outstanding Young Man of America, 1972; Chancellor's Medallion for Outstanding Public Service, 1987; Goshorn Foundation, 1992 Statesman of the Year. Elected to the House: 1970 - 1974. Elected to the Senate: 1976-1992. Served as Senate President Pro Tem 1983-1988.
