Current Bill Summary

SB 943 - This act provides an option for third classification county commissions to appoint a three member county board of equalization. Currently this option is available for first class noncharter counties.

To be eligible to be appointed, members must have been residents of the county for the previous 5 years and must be taxpaying property-owning citizens. The members shall serve staggered three year terms.

If this option is not chosen by the commission, then the board of equalization shall consist of the county commission, the county assessor, the county surveyor, and the county clerk who shall be secretary of the board without a vote (SECTION 138.010).
