Current Bill Summary

SS/SCS/SB 831--This act regulates the sale of tobacco to minors by requiring those who sell tobacco products to get a license, at a cost of $25, from the newly created Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control. The Division would assume the duties of Liquor Control as well as enforcing the provisions of this act by issuing licenses, conducting random inspections, enforcing fines, and bringing suspensions of licenses.

The act establishes a penalty of an infraction, fines up to $200, and potential revocation of licenses for up to 21 days for violations of the provisions. However, any person charged with enforcing the act shall issue a summons to the persons believed to have violated the provisions of the act, and shall not arrest any person.
