Current Bill Summary

SCS/SB 697 - This act prohibits the disclosure of any personal information in a motor vehicle or driver's license record. Information on driving violations and accidents can be disclosed. Exceptions are allowed for the following: (1) Government agencies; (2) Motor vehicle safety and recalls; (3) Research; (4) Media; (5) Insurers; (6) Towing companies; (7) Private investigators and attorneys (8) Anyone with consent from the individual being checked; (9) Employers for commercial driver's license purposes; and (10) Uses specifically authorized by other laws.

No recipient of personal information may redisclose it except within the same agency. Every request for personal record information shall be in writing and maintained by the Department of Revenue for three years. Every person making a request shall provide proof of identity. False representations and other violations of this act are penalized.
