Current Bill Summary

SB 643 - This act is enabling language for the Department of Aging, to be effective on July 1, 1997 if a constitutional amendment is passed in November of 1996. The language makes a Type I Transfer of the Division of Aging to the Department of Aging. It grants the Department of Aging authority to hire necessary support personnel, not to exceed 725 persons, and grants the Department rulemaking authority.

The act specifies that appropriations for the Department of Aging shall be determined in the same appropriations bill as the Department of Social Services. The act also specifies that the Department of Aging, Department of Social Services, Department of Health and the Department of Mental Health develop a unified delivery system to meet the needs of Missouri's elderly population.
