Current Bill Summary

SB 629 - This act again makes the crimes of speeding and careless and imprudent driving misdemeanors rather than infractions. Both crimes had been made infractions under HB 717 from 1995. A prosecuting attorney may reduce a speeding violation to an infraction without reducing the fine the motorist must pay. A person who fails to appear in court on an infraction charge may be fined up to five hundred dollars.

This act contains an emergency clause and is similar to SB 541.
