Current Bill Summary

SB 566 - This act removes the authority for the Gaming Commission to use the Highway Patrol in a manner which is inconsistent with enforcing the traffic laws and promoting safety upon the highways. Currently, Highway Patrol officers are assigned oversight duties on excursion gambling boats. This act would permit these officers to be reassigned to the Highway Patrol even though the statutory limit (section 43.050) would be exceeded. The Highway Patrol must again be under the statutory limit by August 28, 2000.
