Born August 19, 1942, in Sedalia. Educated at University of Missouri-Columbia (B.S., agriculture).

Married Jean M. Turner. They have four children: Sidney III, Richard, Lindsey and Jennifer. He is a farmer and serves as the Majority Caucus Chair.
