HB 381 -- Criminal Procedure
This bill requires criminal courts to set a case for trial within 100 days of a defendant's not guilty plea. The court may grant a motion for a continuance upon a finding of a necessary and compelling reason. Current law requires a defendant to formally request a speedy trial, upon which the case is set for trial as soon as reasonably possible.
