HB 90 -- Dental Assistants

This bill changes the definition of the certifying board from the American Dental Assistants Association to the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc.

The bill creates the "Expanded functions dental assistant" as any dental assistant who has passed a basic dental assisting skill mastery examination or a certified dental assistant who has successfully completed a board approved expanded functions course, passed a competency exam, and showed proof of competency to the dental board. The board is required to adopt rules and regulations establishing requirements for education and competency.

The bill allows licensed dentists to delegate to dental assistants certain duties that would be considered the practice of dentistry done pursuant to rules established by the dental board. No such rule can conflict with the practice of dental hygiene.

The bill also places dental assistants under the unlicensed and unregistered dentistry act.
