Current Bill Summary

SB 1331 - Current law grants the Governor the authority to fill vacancies in the statewide elected offices of Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State Auditor, State Treasurer, and Attorney General. This act requires the Governor to instead call a special election to fill vacancies in such offices. Within 30 days of being notified of the vacancy, the Governor shall issue a writ of election to the Secretary of State and the special election shall take place not later than 60 days after the writ is issued.

This act is substantially similar to SB 335 (2025).
