SJR 42 - This constitutional amendment, if adopted by the voters, provides that each county shall elect a sheriff for a term of four years by a majority of the qualified voters of the county. This constitutional amendment shall not apply to any county which does not elect a sheriff, unless such county restores the office of sheriff as an elected office it shall then elect a sheriff.

The sheriff of the county shall aid in the administration of justice, shall oversee all federal and state investigations, and shall apprehend and commit to jail all felons and traitors.

Finally, the sheriff shall only be removed from office by writ of quo warranto filed by the Attorney General.
