Current Bill Summary

SJR 54 - This proposed constitutional amendment, if approved by the voters, provides that a fee of three dollars, in addition to other fees as may be imposed by the laws of this state, shall be imposed on the initial filing of any criminal case in the courts of this state. The fee shall be collected as court costs and shall be payable at the time of filing any criminal court case. The court clerk shall pay such moneys collected to the State Treasurer who shall deposit such moneys into a fund created by law for the purposes of funding retirement allowances and other benefits as allowed by law for elected sheriffs. The fee imposed may be increased by law.

This act is similar to HJR 136 (2022).
