Current Bill Summary

SB 792 - This act establishes the Joint Task Force on School Bus Safety to study school bus transportation safety in public schools. The Task Force shall include two state representatives appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, two senators appointed by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, the Commissioner of Education or his or her designee, the Director of the Department of Transportation or his or her designee, and the Director of the Department of Public Safety or his or her designee.

Starting in 2023, the Task Force shall meet at least three times annually to develop an annual report analyzing school bus transportation safety in public schools, including analyzing entrance and exit safety, the effectiveness of seatbelts, and other related topics determined by the Task Force chair. The Task Force shall submit its report to the Governor and General Assembly by December 31st each year.

This act is identical to SB 609 (2021) and provisions in the truly agreed SS#2/HB 661 (2021), which was vetoed by the Governor.
