Current Bill Summary

SB 526 - This act provides that a presiding circuit judge may establish rules for courtrooms, jury rooms, and chambers or offices of the court in any courthouse that contains both a county office and a courtroom, while the county commission shall have authority over all other areas. Currently, a circuit court marshal appointed by a presiding circuit judge oversees the physical security of a courthouse. This act provides that the circuit court marshal oversees the physical security of courtrooms, jury rooms, and chambers of offices of the court.

This act is similar to provisions in the truly agreed to and finally passed CCS/SS#2/SCS/HCS/HB 271 (2021), in the perfected HCS/HBs 165 & 196 (2021), in HCS/SS/SCS/SB 27 (2021), in HCS#2/SCS/SB 91 (2021), and in HB 678 (2021).
